Minor tooth flaws like chips, stains, or gaps between your teeth aren’t so minor if they keep you from smiling! At Redmond Smiles, we can help resolve problems with imperfect teeth using natural-looking veneers. Veneers conceal imperfections on your teeth to bring out your smile’s true beauty. In this post, your Redmond, Washington dentist, Dr. Colby Eckland, answers your questions about veneer treatment.Â
Veneers are thin porcelain laminates bonded to the surface of flawed teeth to cover stains, chips, gaps, and other imperfections that make your smile less appealing. Once bonded in place, the veneers become the new “face” of your smile, giving your grin an attractive, flawless appearance. Â
Dr. Eckland will start with an oral evaluation to determine if your teeth are healthy enough for veneers. Then, we’ll assess the problems you’d like to correct and create a treatment plan to achieve your desired results. To make room for your veneers, we’ll remove a thin layer of enamel from the teeth to be treated. Then, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to an off-site lab where custom veneers are fabricated. As this could take several weeks, we’ll cover your teeth with temporary veneers during the interim period. When your porcelain restorations are ready, we’ll cement them in place permanently to transform your smile.
Yes! Porcelain veneers are custom-designed to look just like your natural teeth, perfectly matching their color, size, shape, and translucency. Dr. Eckland takes great care to place your veneers flush on your teeth so that they blend in seamlessly with your smile. Â
After years of wear on her front teeth, our client decided to pursue orthodontic treatment to correct her bite. This created spaces upfront that Dr Colby was able to fill with direct bonding veneers. Now our client is thrilled and can not stop smiling!
Porcelain veneers are not only beautiful, but they’re strong and enduring, lasting up to 15 or more years. You can help them last longer by taking good care of your teeth. Diligent brushing and flossing on your part, along with regular dental checkups and cleanings, can keep your veneers going strong for many, many years.
Some foods simply aren’t good for your teeth and pose a risk to your veneers. To protect both, Dr. Eckland recommends avoiding hard and sticky foods like hard candies, hard or chewy nuts, taffy, caramel, popcorn kernels, etc. You should also limit your intake of sugary foods and drinks to minimize the risk of getting cavities in your newly restored teeth. No! Dr. Eckland will use local anesthesia for your procedure to give you a smooth, comfortable treatment.Â
